Diagnostic Scanner & Specialty Tools Rental Agreement

To help you verify vehicle coverage and tool compatibility before committing to a final purchase, geekauto offers an exclusive Try-Before-You-Buy Rental Program for diagnostic scanners and specialty automotive tools.

1. How the Rental Program Works

  • Switch to Rental: When ordering a new diagnostic scanner or tool, contact us at sales@geekauto.co.nz to convert your purchase into a rental arrangement.
  • Security Deposit: We collect a deposit equivalent to the full retail price of the brand-new unit prior to dispatch.
  • Rental Unit Dispatched: We will ship a fully operational, pre-owned (refurbished) model of the identical tool for you to test on your target vehicle(s).
  • Rental Calculation Period: The rental duration begins on the date tracking shows delivered/signed for, and concludes on the date the return parcel is scanned as lodged/collected by the courier.

2. Weekly Fees & 3-Week Maximum Threshold

  • Billing Cycle: Rental fees are calculated on a weekly basis and confirmed before dispatch.
  • 3-Week Overdue Rule (Deemed Purchased): If the rental unit is not lodged with a courier within 3 weeks (21 calendar days) from the original delivery date, the agreement automatically converts into a final sale. In this case, your entire deposit will be forfeited, no deposit refund will be issued, and the rental unit will remain with you.

3. Post-Rental Options: Purchase or Return

Once your testing is complete, you may choose one of the following options:

  • Option A: Deciding NOT to Purchase (Return for Deposit Refund): If you choose not to buy the unit, safely courier the pre-owned tool back to our Auckland facility. Upon receipt and successful technical inspection, we will deduct the agreed rental fees from your deposit and immediately refund the remaining balance to your original payment method.
  • Option B: Proceeding with Purchase (Rent-to-Own Credit): If you are satisfied with the tool's coverage and decide to buy the brand-new unit, we will waive one (1) full week of your rental fee! Return the pre-owned unit to us, and once inspected, we will promptly dispatch your brand-new, factory-sealed unit.

4. Return Condition, Inspection & Video Verification

  1. Original Condition Required: The returned unit, diagnostic adapters, main test cables, power chargers, and carrying case must be returned in the exact cosmetic and operational condition as received. Any form of human-induced damage, misuse, or missing accessories will not be accepted.
  2. Video Recording Policy: To protect both parties and ensure complete transparency:
    • geekauto records a complete packing and dispatch video verifying serial numbers, cosmetic condition, and all included accessories prior to shipping.
    • Upon receiving your return parcel, our technical team records a continuous unboxing and testing video. This video documentation serves as the definitive record of the returned item's condition.
  3. Damage & Replacement Costs: Any physical damage (e.g., cracked screens, burnt OBD boards, fluid contamination) or missing components identified during unboxing inspection will incur direct repair or replacement deductions from your security deposit.
  4. Return Logistics: The customer is responsible for safe, trackable return shipping to geekauto in Penrose, Auckland.
